My client is a lifestyle branded Insurance company for people who love cars and love driving them. They have an opportunity for a Data Security Engineer that will be primarily focused on identifying and remediating data risks across the company

This role will work to define, oversee, and manage standards, processes, reporting, and metrics as part of a data protection program in conjunction with stakeholder teams working on other areas of operational risk. This person will also be a critical team member in coordinating and, where necessary, leading data protection and governance services and projects across the organization. The candidate will assist in developing and maturing data protection strategies, policies, standards, and projects that support a vision for the protection of Hagerty and customer data now and into the future.  This role will be based in our Traverse City, MI office.
What will you be doing?



    • Own the strategy, implementation, tools, management, compliance, and reporting for the data protection program as well as standards and measures for the data governance program across Hagerty
    • Identify and seek key stakeholders and business process owners across Hagerty to support the identification, assessment, aggregation and the overall management of data risks and controls
    • Create, modify and implement policies, standards, guidelines, and training for data protection, data access, and governance
    • Provide direction and oversight to app dev and engineering teams to design, develop, deploy and sustain solutions that meet data protection requirements
    • Foster a data protection culture within the company and formalize the supporting processes (e.g. discovery, principles of data processing, data classification, data protection by design and by default, and data breach management)
    • Responsible for design, implementation and compliance with data security methods and procedures
    • Maintain a current understanding of PCI DSS requirements, as well as emerging information security topics at large, including but not limited to the cloud
    • Coordinate across lines of business to develop enterprise technology solutions for PCI Compliance


    • Bachelor’s degree with a major course work in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cyber Security, or closely related field
    • 2+ years’ experience in information security; IAM and security expertise around managing legacy risks and security debt
    • Experience working within information classification and/or data protection frameworks as well as working knowledge and experience ensuring compliance with security frameworks such as ISO, PCI DSS, NIST, CIS and SANS Critical Controls
    • Understanding of construction and design of big data architectures, security protocols, data modeling and related aspects of data security.
    • Working knowledge of the mitigation of security vulnerabilities as well as remediation techniques
    • Technical understanding of how cyber-attacks are carried out and how they can be disrupted
    • Experience supporting effective cyber and information security programs with strong ideas of how to stand up a data protection program
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work in a team environment, ability to foster strong relationships with auditors and business process owners
    • Professionally recognized certifications in a security-related field, CISSP or other certifications preferred
    • Masters’ degree in a technical field is a plus
